And thus the "Play in May" Challenge - 31 days to writing a spec script for your favorite TV show. For those of you not familiar with a "spec script," head on over to Wikipedia to find out. For those of you not familiar with Wikipedia, we're quite impressed you've made it to this blog.
But that's it. This Challenge blog is all about writing a single spec script, for your TV show of choice, in a single month. At the end, we'll have a big script sharing party and see how everyone's done. If we had connections into the entertainment industry, we'd say a "winning script" would get reviewed by someone important- but we do not. But it will be seen by your peers, which is just as cool, right? Right?
A few notes before we get out of here:
- This challenge is highly informal. If you want to join, just email playinmaychallenge@gmail.com stating such, and you will be added.
- "Added" means two things: 1) You're cool and like TV. 2) You get access to post to this blog. That's it. There's no obligation, no prize, and no sex in the champagne room.
- Access to the blog is granted so that you can post updates, links you've found, discussions you'd like to initiate, etc. This is a community site, so respect the community. Those violating the Terms of Service (which are summarized as "Don't be a douchebag") will be promptly removed.
- Label your posts. Try to label them using existing labels; this will help keep things organized. Starting/suggested labels include: Information, Participants, Resources, and Links.
- Where possible, try to pick a TV show that isn't already being "spec'ed" by someone. This will keep things diverse and prevent 800 scripts for American Idol. Remember, respect the dibs.
- Have fun, and help each other out. If you think this post sucks, say so. Just try to be creative and constructive about it. "You're gay" may be "funny" in some circles, but it's not really a helpful comment.
